Adobe CS6 Updates Are Here!
By Andrew Cheyne
Published on Monday, May 7th, 2012
Hey folks – as promised, we are ready day-one with CS6 compatibility for all of our products. If you own our current CS5.5 compatible products, your updates to CS6 are FREE.

To get your free CS6-compatible installers, please download them HERE.

For Magic Bullet Suite 11 users, you can alternatively use Red Giant Link to grab the latest installers. Depending on how you have notifications set up, Link will automatically update you when the release is available; just follow the on-screen instructions for updating. If Link isn’t set up to automatically grab updates, launch Link from your Applications Folder on a Mac (Applications > Red Giant Link) or from your Program Files on Windows (Program Files > Red Giant Link).

What are you getting?
  • Red Giant has been participating in Adobe’s CS6 beta programs to ensure all of our products work properly in the new host applications. This means that ALL of Red Giant’s products have been tested for quality inside of After Effects CS6, Premiere Pro CS6, and Photoshop CS6, where applicable.
  • To ensure full compatibility with CS6, please ensure you’re using the products included in this latest release. We did find bugs! And we fixed them!
  • The Magic Bullet, Trapcode, Effects, and Keying Suite installers have all been updated to support CS6 applications as targets for installing our products. This means you install once and your Red Giant products end up in the proper spot from the start – no copying of files required once the installer has run.
Known Issues
  • We are continuing to work with Adobe with a couple of issues that popped up very late in their beta process in both Trapcode Particular and Trapcode Form: The Orthographic Camera in After Effects CS6 is not working properly with Particular and Form.
  • Also in Trapcode Form: Form runs into ram preview issues if the Camera layer is not the same length as the composition. To prevent these issues, make sure the Camera layer extends from the beginning of the timeline, even if the Form layer begins somewhat later.
  • In Knoll Light Factory in OSX: When you have GPU rendering turned on, it causes artifacts in preview renders. This does not affect output renders.
  • For Magic Bullet QuickLooks: You need to click the “Apply Look” button twice in Premiere Pro CS6 in order to launch the Looks Builder.
  • And, in Toonit: Toonit sometimes causes crashes in Premiere Pro CS6 on OSX. We’re still working on the exact steps that cause this behaviour; it’s intermittent and hard to nail down (we’re also working on a fix!).
What next?

Looks 2.0 Good to Go with FCPX 10.0.4
By Andrew Cheyne
Published on Friday, April 13th, 2012

Well, that was fun! As you may have seen already, a recent update to FCPX ended up causing a bug with Previews in Magic Bullet Looks 2.0. We jumped right on getting a fix in place and are happy to say that the fix is ready to go! So, go ahead and update FCPX, update Looks to the latest (2.0.7) and you’re good to go.

Many thanks to the team over at Apple for helping us out on this one!

To get the update, either use the Red Giant Link updater already on your system or you can download the latest installer here.

We didn’t want to hold back a couple of other fixes we had in the pipeline so the full details on this Magic Bullet update include:

  • Looks 2.0.7 fixes the Preview issue (image inversion and/or doubling) when used after updating to FCPX 10.0.4.
  • It also fixes “hands on” mode in the Magic Bullet Looks application on OSX.
  • Sony Vegas users will also notice we have fixed the issue with Looks not respecting the “assume Linear Gamma” setting.
  • In all host apps, the Hue/Saturation tool is now available in the Subject category as it was meant to be!
  • In other Magic Bullet news, we also took a look at Grinder and fixed the issue many users have reported where Grinder would crash on launch on OSX 10.5.8 (Leopard) systems.

Enjoy, and thanks for your patience while we fixed this up!

Looks Users: Do not update to FCPX 10.0.4… Yet.
By Aharon Rabinowitz
Published on Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

IMPORTANT: The new FCPX 10.0.4 update breaks the preview functionality for Magic Bullet Looks & some other non Red Giant plug-ins.

Do NOT update IF YOU ARE USING LOOKS. If you have already updated, we currently don’t know of any way to roll it back to a previous version. Here’s some more info:

In the latest release of FCPX, Apple fixed a bug  in FCPX 10.0.4 that makes it clearer to plugins about the orientation of the video. However, because of this bug fix, you’re now seeing a flipped image in Magic Bullet Looks. Here’s why:

We already knew about the issue  a long time ago. To make sure you never experienced any problem, we put work-around for the bug in MB Looks. So you never saw the issue, because we already had it covered. However, the work around we created isn’t compatible with the latest bug fix from Apple, so it ends up causing a flipped image.

Here’s the  good news:

  • We’re on it and will fix it ASAP
  • It does not affect renders, it’s only in the preview.

Again, our recommendation, for now, is that you do not update to 10.0.4 – if you are using Looks. As soon as we have a fix, we’ll let you know.

Magic Bullet Denoiser II is Here!
By Aharon Rabinowitz
Published on Tuesday, February 28th, 2012

Hi Folks -

At the end of last year, we removed Magic Bullet Denoiser from our website, discontinuing version 1 from our product line. At that time, we promised we would release a new version of Denoiser that would be more stable and free to current users of Denoiser 1. And as of today, that’s exactly what we’ve done.

Magic Bullet Denoiser II is here!

Here are the quick points:

  • We’ve developed Magic Bullet Denoiser II from scratch (completely new code) to bring you the quality of Denoiser 1, but with more stability. Red Giant owns this code 100% – which means the product is not going anywhere.
  • We have spent lots of time developing the default settings for Denoiser II to give you the best possible look as soon as you apply. There’s is always room to tweak setting, but often you won’t need to.
  • Currently Denoiser II is only available for After Effects, but it will support multiple host apps in the future (read THIS FAQ for more info).
  • Denoiser II is a Free Update for all Denoiser 1 and Magic Bullet Suite users. I repeat: If you already owned a license of Denoiser or bought the Magic Bullet Suite after Denoiser was discontinued, you get Denoiser II for FREE.

If, as described above, you’re entitled to a free update to Denoiser II, you can grab it by downloading the latest Magic Bullet Suite Installer. If Denoiser is new to you, you can get it HERE.

Here’s the FAQ full of great info on the Denoiser II update that should answer any and all of your questions.

As always, we’re committed to giving you the best software, the best user experience, and the best support in the industry. We’re always listening to your questions and concerns and will always be here for you. Reach out to us if you need help.

Special thanks to T. J. Baurain and Joe Pollock for filming the vast majority of the clips in the above video. Other clip credits include:

  • Vincent Laforet & Stu Maschwitz (Nocturne)
  • Eric Escobar
  • Seth Worley (Plot Device)

Magic Bullet Suite 11.2 – Includes Avid Media Composer Support
By Aharon Rabinowitz
Published on Friday, January 13th, 2012

Hey folks – You’ve been asking for it, and, thanks to our exceptional products and engineering teams, here it is: Magic Bullet Suite 11.2

The 2 big highlights in this release are:

  • MB Looks is working in Avid Media Composer 5.5 & 6
  • The Single Suite installer now has individual product install options

BUY MAGIC BULLET SUITE 11

As a reminder, MB Suite works in OS X Lion, so no worries there. I repeat, we are go for Lion and have been for several months.

However, before the questions start coming in, no, this release does not include MB Looks support in FCPX. Sorry. We’re bummed too. Here’s a video we released a short while ago to explain why.

We’re still waiting on Apple, but we’re confident there will be a fix in the near future. You can read more about that HERE.

Some Magic Bullet Goodies, Just in Time for the Holidays

Maintenance Release: Magic Bullet Suite 11.1.2

The elves at Red Giant have been merrily working away on some updates to the Magic Bullet Suite, checking a few items off our lists to try and ensure your latest film project doesn’t end up looking like a lump of coal. This will also be the first Magic Bullet Suite installer that will not contain Denoiser 1.0 (more below).

Here are the hi-lights of Magic Bullet Suite 11.1.2:

PhotoLooks 1.5.2

  • Those of you installing PhotoLooks along with the entire suite may have noticed categories that show up in the Looks drawer that happen to be empty – this occurs because Looks created for Looks 2.0 used new tools and aren’t usable in PhotoLooks (yet). We’ve fixed things up for now so you wont see a bunch of empty categories – only categories that have Looks you want.
  • “Save Image As” in the Photo LooksBuilder was never meant to be left in the application and was not working correctly. It has been removed completely. Use the host app you launch PhotoLooks from to save your images.
  • For those of you who also use QuickLooks, there was a bug in the installer that would cause all of your QuickLooks presets to disappear after installing PhotoLooks. We’ve fixed this up.

Looks 2.0.4

  • For those of you using Looks 2.0 in Sony’s Vegas Pro on non-English 32-bit Windows systems, we’ve fixed up the truly annoying OMP error that pops up on your screen.

Colorista II 1.0.5

  • In Premiere Pro, dragging the power mask preview outline was not lining up with the actual mask. We’ve sorted this all out and it’s working great.

Grinder 1.5.1

  • The Timecode Start setting was always working in ‘Continuous’ mode – ‘Reset’ and ‘Time of Day’ were being ignored – all fixed up.
  • Choosing “Original + Timecode” as the main format option was causing the timecode to be off by a factor of 100. We’ve got the math all working now and you’ll get the results you’re looking for.

Bye-Bye Denoiser 1.0

Grab the latest Magic Bullet Suite installer for Mac or Windows here or use Red Giant Link to update your installation.
