iLove our new app family
By Debbie Rich
Published on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

A few weeks ago, we added two new iPhone/iPad apps to our mobile app family. Like a true family gathering, we’ve had warm responses and (virtual) hugs all around. Here are some of our favorite quotes and images.

Noir tells a cinematic story with your photo. Transform your iPhone/iPad photos with beautiful, dramatic lighting and instant results.

“The results are pretty stunning and look to be able to transform boring everyday shots into moody movie masterpieces.” — The Next Web, Matthew Panzarino, read more

“I’ve already fallen in love with Noir – a universal app for giving your photos a cinematic look by converting the image to black and white or a tinted monochrome and adding dramatic lighting.” — TUAW, Chris White, read more

“Noir itself as a great application for black and white treatments, offering a large degree of control and faultless ergonomics.” — l’iphoneographie, read French or English translation

We started a new Flickr group that is already bursting with Noir awesomeness, like the image shown below. Check it out.

Movie Looks gives your iPhone movies an Instant Hollywood effect. Turn your family into movie stars with glamorous color effects inspired by popular films.

“The effects are great. I usually get this kind of color on AfterEffects or Final Cut Pro. Now I can do ‘Magic Bullet Looks’ thingy on my iPhone.” — Apple in Our Everyday Life, read tutorial

“This awesome YouTube video goes through all of the Movie Looks presets and his results look gorgeous.” — YouTube, Carmbrecht, user channel

Plastic Bullet is an iPhone app with infinite possibilities. Put the fun, spontaneity and surprise of plastic-fantastic toy cameras with organic colors, vignettes, blurs, glows and light leaks.

“I then imported the picture to the Plastic Bullet app, which applied random vignetting and color shifts. It’s one of my favorite apps, because each time the image is processed, a unique, non-reproducible photo is generated.” — The Bay Citizen, John Curley, read more

“Plastic Bullet for iPhone is one of those apps that can really bring a smile to your face… If you’d like a very simple app that creates some really nice shots Plastic Bullet is easily worth it.” — iOS Photo Apps blog, read more

Plastic Bullet gets silky with Red Ruby Rose (& free PB offer!)
By Debbie Rich
Published on Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

I discovered Rowena Dugdale and her love of Plastic Bullet when she posted beautiful images she had photographed and plasticized on her Red Ruby Rose blog. Rowena worked Plastic Bullet images into some of her gorgeous handmade silk clutch bags, and I wrestled the opportunity to write about them because, well, Aharon Rabinowitz can just go write about hardware stuff!

Here are Rowena’s original Plastic Bullet photos for her Zebra and Chandelier clutches:

And transformed into Red Ruby Rose silk clutch bags:

The Zebra and Chandelier designs are captured directly from Plastic Bullet. Rowena told me, “The zebra print is a PB photo of a suede silkscreen textile print I created at college. I grabbed my iPhone just to see how it would photograph through PB before scanning but it looked so great through the phone I used it as is.”

Pictures from the “Plot Device” Film Shoot
By Aharon Rabinowitz
Published on Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

This weekend director Seth Worley filmed most of the shots for our short film “Plot Device.”It rained most of the time, but he and his team were totally pro’s and worked through it, filming what will ultimately be the coolest production I’ve ever been a part of. We asked the cast and crew to take pictures and tweet them, but we thought you’d enjoy seeing them all in one place:

In a previous post I told you that the film was a buddy-cop, romance, indie-film, noir, zombie horror, Michael Bay-style science fiction movie. As you can see from the photos, I was not kidding.

Plastic Bullet International Contest – And the winners are…
By Aharon Rabinowitz
Published on Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

We got a lot of great imagery in our Plastic Bullet International contest. Too much, in fact. All that great stuff made for a tough decision, but thankfully I didn’t have to make it on my own. The entire team at Red Giant voted on our favorite images, and below are the 3 winners:

@daveweekes68 - Dave Weekes, from Anan, Tokushima, Japan. This was our clear winner. It received more votes than any other photo.

@motogotoe - Tanner Thompson. We loved this one almost as much as the image above. But the last few votes brought it into 2nd place. Still, a fantastic image.

@lorenzobax - Lorenzo Bassotto, in Verona. This image didn't score quite as high in the voting, but it still rose high above the remaining images. It's got some real character and emotional depth.

Winners receive either a $50 Apple gift card or any single Red Giant plug-in. Congratulations folks! Great work!

Hey folks – we just picked the random winner for the Plastic Bullet International contest. The winner was @scoodog (Tom Myler) with this image:

When we let Tom know this morning, he responded: “Wow, thank you so much!!  I am so happy to have won. I love Plastic Bullet so much.”

Congratulations Tom! We love Plastic Bullet too!

FYI – We used Rowfeeder.com to capture all entries to the contest. After removing any posts that were ineligible (based on the contest rules), we used Random.org to randomly pick the winner from list of contestants.

But now on to 2nd Prize… We’ll anounce the skill-based winners later this week. We have to go through them as a team, here at RG. We’ll let you know soon. Thanks to everyone for their great submissions!

Plastic Bullet International Contest – Day 4
By Aharon Rabinowitz
Published on Monday, November 22nd, 2010

We had a lot of submissions come in for our Plastic Bullet International contest, from Friday through today, and I’m trying to catch up with them. But, for now, here are our favorite images that came in until Friday @ 11:59 PM EST:

Today is the last day to enter the contest.

I’m out for the rest of the week on a 1-2 punch of jury duty and Thanksgiving, so we will probably post the rest of our favorites next week, and then pick a winner.

Don’t forget you can use ANY CAMERA, so long as the final image is processed with Plastic Bullet. And even if you don’t have serious photography chops (or any at all) EVERYONE who enters has an equal chance at winning the grand prize. There are also prizes for the best images, but anyone has a chance at the big one.

  • Get Plastic Bullet HERE.
  • Enter the contest HERE.
