Red Giant Software Releases Magic Bullet Suite 2.0

San Francisco, CA, February 22, 2005 – Red Giant Software today announced the availability of Magic Bullet Suite version 2.0. Comprised of 18 After Effects plug-ins, the new software application delivers a complete production pipeline for processing digital video footage for output to DVD, TV, or film. Applying expertly-designed technology created by the innovative post production studio, The Orphanage, users can de-interlace and de-artifact footage, apply film treatments, crop footage to any standard format, and ensure compliance with broadcast TV standards.

Magic Bullet Suite is used worldwide by independent filmmakers, corporate videographers, and visual effects artists to master DV, HD, and film projects. Using Magic Bullet Suite, the Manhattan-based post house, MBS Productions recently completed the openers and segment bumpers for Nokia Presents Hard Rock Live, a 20-concert series aired on MTV. The software application allowed MBS Productions to give pre-concert footage a 16 mm film look that was artistically differentiated from the live musical performances shot on BetaCam.

New features of Magic Bullet Suite 2.0 include:

  • Misfire—13 filters to accurately mimic film grain, splotches, scratches, and projection artifacts.
  • More Looks—23 additional preset film treatments.
  • Look Suite Mac optimization—up to five times faster rendering on Power Mac G5 vs. Power Mac G4.
  • HD capability—included as standard (no separate HD version).
  • No dongle required.
  • Optional unlimited render licenses.

“The overwhelming interest in beta testing the new release of Magic Bullet Suite shows us that there is a significant need for the features we are introducing. Early user feedback has been very positive. New HDV camera users will find Magic Bullet Suite 2 indispensable on their high-definition projects,” said Sean Safreed, Senior Product Manager at Red Giant Software.

Pricing and Availability

  • Magic Bullet Suite 2.0 supports both SD and HD resolutions for $795 USD. The HD capability is included as standard—there is no separate HD version.
  • Render Licenses can be purchased for $495 USD to provide a faceless render-only node that can be loaded on an unlimited number of computers for network rendering.
  • Upgrading from version 1.x costs $149 USD and requires a one-time check for the dongle. Once the software is installed, the dongle is no longer required. (Magic Bullet Suite HD owners get the Render License as part of their upgrade.)
