San Francisco, CA, February 9, 2004 – Red Giant Software today announced the completion of Phoenix Editorial’s work on a new national TV commercial for Yahoo!—the latest in over 25 projects the company finished using the award-winning Magic Bullet Suite. The versatile software allowed Phoenix Editorial to output film-like quality footage originally shot in NTSC, with a budget 10 times lower than required for typical film productions.
“Magic Bullet’s Look Suite is a very artist-friendly tool for color correction. Rather than offering traditional computer based color correction tools, Look Suite works more like a multi-million dollar telecine color corrector,” said Matt Silverman, Director of Effects and Design at Phoenix Editorial.
The Yahoo! commercial features the winner of the nationwide yodeling competition, Taylor Marie Ware, a 9-year old girl from Tennessee, who earned $10,000 and the opportunity to appear in Yahoo!’s TV ad. The spot began airing in late 2003.
The majority of Phoenix Editorial’s work is shot on film. When a project does call for video source footage, Phoenix Editorial looks for ways to produce the highest quality results representative of those shot on film.
“Over the years, Yahoo! has spent millions of dollars producing spots. This yodeling commercial, however, was not part of Yahoo!’s main advertising campaign, so there was a limited production budget. We needed a tool that would maintain the very high quality standards of other Yahoo! commercials by achieving the temporal and spatial look of film—that’s why we turned to Magic Bullet Suite,” added Silverman.
Pricing and Availability
Magic Bullet Suite consists of a set of five Adobe After Effects plug-ins that take original, high-quality digital video and converts it to 24 frames per second. The process reduces many of the artifacts present in digital video footage. The software, which works on both Macintosh and Windows platforms, has been used on numerous productions selected for prestigious US and international film festivals.
Magic Bullet Suite comes in two versions: Magic Bullet Suite Standard Definition (SD) for $995 USD, supporting NTSC and PAL video solutions and Magic Bullet Suite High Definition (HD) for $1,995 USD which has no resolution limit.
