There are four main components to Primatte Keyer v3, each are defined below and shown in the interface image example

	1 PreKey Controls [example] These tools fix the low color resolution problem in DV & HDV formats.
	2 Primatte Controls This is where all the keying functions are done. View - View your image as a full screen or a split screen to better compare results of the original blue-screen image and the matte. Selection - This is where the matte generation begins by sampling the background and foreground areas in the image. Correction - Tweak matte to account for problem areas like transparency and fine details areas such as hair and smoke and remove color spill. Refinement - Final matte fine tuning tools.
	3 Alpha Controls Allows you to zap grain or noise, fill in holes in the foreground matte, and fix other challenging matte problems. Additional gamma controls let you cut out dark noise and sharpen matte edges.
	4 Composite Controls These three filters are post-keying color correction and integration tools ensuring your keyed element perfectly matches your background. Spill Killer - Corrects unwanted foreground spill found in hard to key areas like hair, motion blur or edges. Color Matcher - Re maps the colors of the foreground to match the background for seamless integration. Light Wrap - Another tool to better integrate the keyed element to the background by providing the illusion that light from the background layer is reflecting along the edges of the foreground.

Prekey™ deartifacting

Ever wonder why your DV chromakey results are lacking?

The DV format has two problems which make keying difficult

• DV 5:1 compression adds extra noise to the image
• Low resolution in the color channel causes block artifacts

Primatte Keyer's new features solve both of these problems. The PreKey deartifacting feature addresses the low color resolution and the Alpha Cleaner filters address the compression issues.

The left image below shows an actress in front of a greenscreen. The footage was shot on MiniDV using a mid-range consumer level camera. On the right is the same footage with a simple color key applied. If you look along the edges of the actress’ face you can see blocking and artifacting caused by the compression in the DV source.

The left side image shows the original footage with the basic key. The right image is the exact same key pre-processed by PreKey deartifacter. The edge of the hair is significantly smoother and more realistic, which makes for both a superior key and final composite.

How does Primatte Keyer compare?

When comparing with Serious Magic's Ultra, in addition to the feature comparison below, we suggest you consider your workflow prior to making a decision. We believe the chromakey step belongs inside of the host application to cut down on time-consuming exporting and re-importing of source material into an external chromakey application. Primatte Keyer is a plug-in designed to streamline the workflow inside your host application. Although developing and maintaining support for multiple host applications does require more engineering on our end, we feel it's worth it!
