Video Cards

Like Apple Motion, Magic Bullet Colorista requires use the graphics card to render.

Magic Bullet Colorista supports a wide range of cards from both ATI or NVIDIA. For ATI cards, we require a 9600 XT or greater, or an X series card starting with the X700 series. Cards with greater model numbers and at least 128 MB of RAM can be used to render Colorista output.

For NVIDIA cards, we support the 6600 model and higher or QuadroFX 1300 and up. Cards with higher model numbers and a minimum of 128 MB of RAM can run Colorista. For users working with HD images, we require that the video card have at least 256 MB of RAM. In all cases, we suggest using the latest video drivers for your graphics card.

Performance Expectations

Since the processing requirements vary wildly, it is difficult to give exact output or render speed expectations on every system when using Colorista. On the highest-end systems such as a Mac Pro or PC workstation with the Quadro 5000 series of graphic cards, you can expect very speedy rendering.

For comparison, in Final Cut Pro 6.02 running on Mac Pro 2008 3.2 GHz machine, Magic Bullet Colorista can render real time in a standard DVCPRO HD 720p composition using the standard ATI 2600XT card for playback purposes using Dynamic RT. Rendering the frames for print to tape takes approximately twice as long as the clip's duration. So for example, if you apply Colorista to a 10-second-long 720p HD clip, it would take approximately 20 seconds to render the result to disk.
