Knoll Light Factory Pro

Knoll Light Factory Pro: [PS-10] Flares on large images can show considerable banding. What is the best way to work with a large image?

To avoid banding on large images, apply Knoll Light Factory Pro to a smaller-sized black solid, then scale the entire image up to the desired size. Then, either use unmult or screen transfer mode to composite it on top of the larger image.

For example, to apply a flare to a 4096 x 4096 image:

  1. Make a new 1024 x 1024 black solid.
  2. Apply a Knoll Light Factory Pro flare to the black solid.
  3. Scale the solid with the flare up by 4x using the highest-quality scale available.
  4. Overlay the scaled solid on top of the 4096 x 4096 image.
  5. Use either Unmult or the Screen transfer mode to composite the two images.

This method will result in a higher-quality flare than if you had simply applied it directly to the larger 4k image.
